MINNEAPOLIS – The St. Thomas Tommies are women's soccer playoff champions of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) for the second year in a row after edging the Augsburg Auggies on penalty kicks in a dramatic 1-1 championship final on Saturday. Tommie goalkeeper Sarah Pasternak made a diving save on the sixth penalty kick to send St. Thomas back to the NCAA Tournament by earning the MIAC's automatic qualifier.

Augsburg forward Ashley St. Aubin scored the 70th goal of her career in the 79th minute of the game to become the MIAC's all-time leader in overall goals. The record was previously held by Jenny Scanlon, who scored 69 goals at Macalester from 1991-94.

- St. Thomas midfielder Ellie Eskierka got the Tommies on the board first, just past the ten-minute mark in the first half.
-The Tommies held the lead until 78:15, when Augsburg's St. Aubin evened the score at 1-1 off a feed from Gabriela Encarnacion.
-St. Thomas went 6-for-6 in the shootout, with Paola Del Moral connecting on the deciding sixth shot. Both Augsburg's Emily Chapman and St. Thomas' Sarah Pasternak made seven saves against eight shots on goal in the game.

-This is St. Thomas' second MIAC playoff championship in program history. The Tommies won their first postseason title in women's soccer last November.
-The postseason series between Augsburg and St. Thomas remains tied, as each team won a pair of games against the other prior to Saturday's tie.
-Only four teams in MIAC women's soccer history have won back-to-back playoff titles. Macalester won three straight from 2003-05, followed by repeat victories by Concordia in 2006-07 and Carleton in 2008-09.

-St. Thomas received the MIAC Playoff championship plaque and the Conference's automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament. Augsburg and the rest of the MIAC will eagerly await Selection Monday to see if the league sends any additional teams to the NCAA Tournament via at-large bids. The NCAA will announce the national tournament field during its annual selection show on Monday, November 11 at 12:00 p.m. CT.
