2003 MIAC Men's Cross Country Awards

MIAC Cross Country Coach of the Year
Matt Haugen of Macalester was selected the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men’s cross country coach of the year . Haugen’s Scots jumped from a seventh place MIAC finish a year ago to a fourth-place finish this year, the program’s best since placing fourth in 1986, and its team score was the lowest for the Scots since 1971. The Scots had five top-30 finishers, the first time they’ve done that since ’71. Both teams will compete at the NCAA Central Region meet in Grinnell, Iowa, Saturday, November 15.

MIAC Men’s Athlete of the Meet
Matt Hooley (Sr., Columbia, MO/ Hickman) won with a time of 25:32 (8000 meters), becoming the first Knight runner to win the MIAC title since 1995 and only the third overall to accomplish the feat.
