BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The 2021 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Men's Soccer Playoffs continued with a pair of semifinal games on Wednesday. Top-seeded St. Olaf held off No. 6 Saint John's, 2-1, while No. 2 Carleton defeated No. 5 Macalester, 1-0.

A team from Northfield is assured to celebrate with a championship plaque on Saturday, as the Oles will now host the Knights at 1:00 p.m. with the MIAC Playoff Championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament on the line.

NO. 1 ST. OLAF 2, NO. 6 SAINT JOHN'S 1 | Box Score |
St. Olaf is moving on to the MIAC Playoff Championship game for the first time since 2015 after defeating Saint John's, 2-1, on Wednesday afternoon. Shea Bechtel got the Oles on the board first, placing a shot in the upper left corner of the net in the game's eighth minute. The lead was short-lived, however, as Saint John's Matt D. Anderson scored the equalizer two minutes later, sending the game into the halftime break knotted up, 1-1. Hakeem Morgan scored the game-winner for St. Olaf at 69:27, breaking the tie and granting the Oles one more home playoff game. SJU goalkeeper Evan Siefkin stopped a game-high five of the seven shots on goal against him in the contest. St. Olaf outshot Saint John's 21-6 and held an 11-2 advantage on corner kicks in the win.

NO. 2 CARLETON 1, NO. 5 MACALESTER 0 | Box Score |
Carleton's Charlie Hall scored a goal 48 seconds into the game and that was all the offense the Knights needed, defeating Macalester, 1-0, in the MIAC semifinals on Wednesday. Tonny Aton earned the assist on the game's lone scoring play. Shots on goal were hard to come by, as both teams did well to keep their goalkeepers out of high-pressure situations; Macalester's Cade Fink made two saves against three shots on goal, while Carleton's Alexei Thomas stopped the only shot he saw in the game. Carleton will now advance on to the MIAC Playoff Championship game for the first time since 2018.

CHAMPIONSHIP SET FOR SATURDAY
Wednesday's semifinal winners will meet on Saturday, November 6, in the 2021 MIAC Men's Soccer Playoff championship game. The championship game is tentatively scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at St. Olaf. The MIAC Playoff Champion will receive the postseason championship plaque and the conference's automatic bid to the 2021 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament.

St. Olaf defeated Carleton, 3-1, in the regular-season matchup on October 2, but the postseason series is dead even at 2-2 all-time. St. Olaf sent Carleton home in the 2007 and 2011 Playoffs, while the Knights got the better of their crosstown rivals in 2013 and 2019. The 2011 Playoff matchup is the only previous time their postseason meeting came in the tournament title game; No. 1 St. Olaf defeated No. 2 Carleton, 3-2, in double-overtime in that contest.

The MIAC has a homepage dedicated to the 2021 MIAC Men's Soccer Playoffs, containing schedules, links, and information on each of the six teams in the field. Throughout the tournament, the page will be updated with scores, stats, and updated schedules. Fans can also follow the action on the MIAC Scoreboard, on the free MIAC mobile app, and on social media through the MIAC's FacebookInstagram, and Twitter accounts.
