Scoring a MIAC Playoff record six goals thanks to hat tricks by both Cole Schwartz and Raphael Cattelin, No. 1 seed Gustavus is headed to the program's first MIAC Playoff Championship game since 2014. The Gusties defeated No. 4 Saint John's, 6-2, on Thursday in a game that had been postponed and relocated to Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato due to field conditions following Wednesday morning's snowfall in St. Peter. The scoring got started early with the teams combining for three goals in the first six minutes of play and five in the first half, which ended with the Gusties on top, 3-2. Schwartz punched in the first two within the game's opening 3:15 before Kagan Foster got the Johnnies on the board at the six-minute mark. Cattelin scored his first goal at 19:10 and Ben Becker brought Saint John's back within one at 36:09. It was all Gustavus in the second half, with Cattelin scoring at 59:13 and 68:43, while Schwartz tallied his third just past the 60-minute mark. Cattelin also assisted on two of Schwartz's goals, while Schwartz returned the favor on one of Cattelin's. Gustavus now moves on to face No. 2 St. Thomas in the MIAC Playoff Championship on Saturday afternoon. The two teams have met in the postseason twice before, with the Gusties coming out on top in both previous matchups (1-0 in 2012, 2-1 in 2007). Gustavus won the 2019 regular season matchup, 2-1, on September 18.

Gustavus and St. Thomas will meet in St. Peter on Saturday, November 9, in the 2019 MIAC Men's Soccer Playoff championship game. The game is tentatively scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The MIAC Playoff Champion will receive the postseason championship plaque and the conference's automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament.
