Regular season MIAC champion Bethel handled its business on Thursday afternoon, defeating Concordia by a margin of 7-0 in the opening game of the 2022 MIAC Baseball Playoffs. Royals centerfielder Caleb Brandt drove in five of the team's seven runs including three on a home run blast over the left-field wall in the bottom of the seventh inning to put the game out of reach. Bethel southpaw Ty Koehn tossed a four-hit, 10-strikeout, complete-game shutout for his fourth win of the season. Dylan Inniger pitched five-and-two-thirds for the Cobbers, allowing four runs on eight hits.

Back-to-back jacks in the top of the first inning gave the Gusties a four-run lead and they never looked back, defeating Saint John's, 17-7, on Thursday night. Gavin Baker tattooed a three-run home run and Ethan Mocchi added a solo shot before Saint John's could register the first out of the game. The long ball proved to be effective for Gustavus all night, as Logan Bjorkman belted two home runs of his own in the fourth and sixth innings to keep the Gusties on top. Ethan Roe led the way for the Johnnie offense, going 3-for-5 with two RBI, while his brother Soren Roe finished the night 2-for-4 with two RBI, a home run, and a walk. Christian Johnson earned the win on the hill for Gustavus, allowing five hits and a pair of earned runs in five innings of work.

The Cobbers and Johnnies will now meet at noon on Friday in an elimination game, while the Royals and Gusties will match up at 3:00 p.m. to determine one-half of the 2022 MIAC Playoff Championship Game on Saturday. The winner of the noon game will hang around to face the loser of the Bethel versus Gustavus matchup in the second elimination contest of the day at 6:00 p.m. Whichever team comes out on top in the 6:00 p.m. matchup will return on Saturday for the title game.

Saturday's MIAC Championship will begin at 3:00 p.m. If necessary, a second game will follow 25 minutes after the first to determine the double-elimination tournament winner. The champion will receive the MIAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Baseball Tournament.

Tickets for all games can be purchased in advance via the St. Paul Saints website. Prices are $10 for adults and $6 for students (with student ID). Note that all tickets are initially priced as general admission and student discounts will be applied at checkout. Tickets can also be purchased at the gate on game days.
