BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – With the 2022 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) season in the books, the conference announced its annual baseball awards on Wednesday.

Gustavus senior first baseman Jack Hanson was named the Max Molock Player of the Year, while Carleton right-hander Kiefer Lord was selected Mike Augustin Pitcher of the Year, and first-year Concordia first baseman Isaac Henkemeyer-Howe earned MIAC Rookie of the Year honors. Bethel head coach Brian Raabe was recognized by his peers as the 2022 Jim Dimick Coach of the Year.

Hanson (Minnetonka, Minn.) led the MIAC in runs scored (26), hits (37), batting average (0.507), on-base percentage (0.565), and slugging (0.932) against conference opponents in 2022. Hanson also ranked second in the conference in home runs (8) and total bases (68). Hanson is the fifth different Gustie to be named MIAC Player of the Year in the last 40 years, and the second in a row, as teammate Bryce Novak was selected as the MIAC Player of the Year in 2021.

Lord (San Carlos, Minn. | Menlo School) put together a dominant 2022 on the mound for the Knights, leading all MIAC pitchers in complete games (4), shutouts (2), strikeouts (45), strikeouts per game (14.46), wild pitches (1), and sacrifice hits allowed (1) in league play. Lord also ranked second in the conference in earned run average (0.64), fourth in wins (3), and fifth in batting average against (0.126). The right-hander joins 2003 recipient Tony LePage as the only Knights ever to win MIAC Pitcher of the Year honors.

Henkemeyer-Howe (Moorhead, Minn.) batted 0.344 with an on-base percentage of 0.440 and a slugging percentage of 0.508 in his debut season for the Cobbers. After trading his hockey stick for a baseball bat in March, Henkemeyer-Howe drove in 12 runs on 21 hits and crossed home plate 14 times to help Concordia to its second consecutive berth in the MIAC Baseball Playoffs. The Cobber first baseman joins teammate Andy Gravdahl as Cobbers to win MIAC Baseball Rookie of the Year honors. Gravdahl was selected as the award recipient in 2019.

Raabe (11th season) guided Bethel to the regular season conference title in baseball for the third time in the last seven full seasons with a 16-4 record in league play. Bethel clinched a berth in the MIAC Baseball Playoffs for the fourth time in the last five full seasons and the Royals reached the 30-win mark overall for the fourth time during Raabe's tenure in 2022. Raabe is now a two-time MIAC Baseball Coach of the Year recipient, having previously won the award in 2015.

In addition to individual awards, MIAC baseball coaches also selected the All-Conference, All-Defensive, and All-Sportsmanship Teams. Thirty players were honored with All-Conference status and all but six were first-time selections. Macalester third baseman Michael Moreno garnered the third All-Conference nod of his career, while Gustavus catcher Ethan Mocchi, Saint John's catcher Ethan Roe, Gustavus first baseman Jack Hanson, Saint John's first baseman Max Nyrop, and Gustavus outfielder Bryce Novak each became two-time honorees. Concordia outfielder Andy Gravdahl added a second straight All-Defensive Team selection as well.

As part of a conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the MIAC also announced the 15th annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship team for baseball. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition.
